Exercise to get fit for a teen?

June 18th, 2010 -- Posted in get fit | 2 Comments »

Ok I’m fourteen i’m 5’4 and I weight around 126 so I’m not overweight ,but I not exactly in my best shape either ,but i’m trying to get fit. I really want to focus on my arm, thighs and butt I want to get muscle definition and getting rid of body fat. Are there any easy excercise to do at home or at the gym to make this happen faster ?

Hello Missy, The best exercise to gain overall lean muscle and encourage good, healthy heart activity is cardio exercise such as running, walking, swimming or bikeing. In addition, you could do some low impact weight training with a Theraband and a physioball. Here are some great exercises that target the muscles you mentioned.
For the abs try the ab crunch sequence. These are a super slow set of crunches where you lay on your back, with knees bent, put your hands behind head and elbows out to the sides. Then lift each vertebra off the floor one by one until you’re in the sit up position then do the same all the way back down to the beginning position. Barely stop at the top and at the bottom. Keep in constant motion. This will ensure that you work each section of the abdominal musculature. Do these to fatigue making sure to breathe throughout the exercise. Follow up with 2 sets of alternating obliques where you take each elbow and go to the opposite side while you ar "curling up.". Being careful to again lift each vertebra off the floor one by one. And, concentrate on making a smooth arc in the air with your elbow then alternate sides. No matter how far you get you will have worked both sides evenly. You can also do these on the floor with your feet ankered under a sofa.
For the thighs try side leg lifts. To do these lay on your side with the leg closest to the floor bent. Besides the bent leg, make sure your body is laying straight, like when you are standing but in a side-lying position. Then raise the other leg away from the body toward the ceiling. Do this very slowly in a controlled fashion with out bending the knee. Again keep in constant motion, barely stopping at the top and the bottom as the leg touches the floor. do as many as you can do properly stop and work the other side. Do 3 sets on each side to fatigue.
For the arms: Invest in a TheraBand (or similar). Medium to light weight would be perfect.
Try a Theraband door pull-up. Tie a knot in the middle of a long band and close it in at the top of a door. Stand in front of the door with a hand grasping each side of the band as if grasping the pull up bar then bring hands down to your chest. Adjust your grip to get the right tension and repeat. You may need to get a light to medium band to get tension throughout the range of motion. For biceps: Place the knot at the bottom of the door. Stand close enough so that your hand can clar the doore as you curl up. Do biceps curls, 3 sets until you fatigue. For the triceps: Place the knot back up to the top of the door. Stand close. Grasp each side of the band in the pull up position. Alow lots of slack in the band and pull down until your arms are at your sides. Repeat 3 sets until you cant do any more.
Best of luck to you!

Is there anything else like the p90x exercise program?

June 18th, 2010 -- Posted in exercise program | 5 Comments »

I looked into the p90x program and i’ve always wanted to try it, but $120 is a bit too much for me. Is there any other Weight loss exercise programs like p90x but cheaper?

Hi,

I graduated high school at 240 pounds and at 5 foot 3 that made me about as round as I was tall. I was one of those overweight teenagers who ate anything and everything without any regard to the effects it was having on my own body. Therefore, I began the diet pills, which did not work; I ate the special diet foods and even began drinking diet beverages. None of this stuff worked for me, just as it does not work for millions of overweight people. Eating less did not work and I was not one to work out or even get up and do anything remotely related to exercise. I knew I would look silly and it would hurt. I never thought or really cared about the health effects this would have on me, back then.

A year ago after a successful weight loss plan, now at 120 pounds, it is a major difference. I’ve lost 30 pounds in the first month. The most significant change in my life is the amount of energy I now have and the way my clothes fit loosely. Everyone close to me and people I haven’t seen in a while are amazed and tell me that I look really good. This is a life changing experience for me although at first I was skeptical about the weight loss plan.

Without getting too technical, there is a hormone produced by your thyroid gland called ‘Thyroxine’ that raises the metabolic rate of almost all the cells in your body. The weight loss program has proven to be effective in the short and long-term, without need to endure starvation and without any daily athletic workout. (But taking a light exercise every few days is highly recommended). Best of all you can eat what you most enjoyed without gaining any weight The weight loss program is affordable by all and do not need to pay a monthly fees to use it. In contrast to diet pills regime where you need to buy it on a regular basis and you will gain more weight when you stop taking it.

The success has inspired me to help others and you could contact me at myweightsuccess@gmail.com if you need more details.

What is something that can help me while I work to lose weight? Diet/exercise tips? Anything!?

June 14th, 2010 -- Posted in exercise to lose weight | 2 Comments »

I’m currently in my first week of changing my eating habits and beginning exercising to lose weight and get in shape. What is some advice or tips that can help me stay focused and dedicated? Does anyone have some tips or secrets to fight cravings? Advice on exercise? What can help me so that I can stay dedicated? Any and all advice is welcome!

First of all, good for you! Not many people can dedicate themselves to changing their habits. Focus on what you want, set your goals, for example: I want to be this many pounds in this amount of days. My friend keeps her weight goal all around her house until she achieves it. For food cravings, try not to even keep them in the house in the first place. Make sure you eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and most importantly WATER! Many people have a problem getting to exercise with their busy schedules, I suggest swimming since it works every muscle in your body and if you have health issues, your okay. Plus you only need to swim for about half an hour a day! You could work out in a gym if you prefer. Focus on the result, keep reminding yourself to help you stick to it. Good luck! I hope I could help!!!!

Will a horn from another Pontiac fit my car?

June 14th, 2010 -- Posted in get fit | 3 Comments »

I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire. As you can guess from the car, the horn is pretty weak. Would a horn from a 96 Grand Am or Grand Prix or any 96 Pontiac car fit mine?? I want to get a new horn so its something people can actually hear.

One thing you may need to consider is that a louder horn will most likely be larger. That means that you may have to find a new place under the hood to mount it, and/or drill some new mounting holes. With that into consideration, you can use a horn from just about any 12v car.

What is a good/exercise program that is healthy, plus lose 40 lbs?

What is a good/exercise program that is healthy, plus lose 40 lbs?

I have lost 48.2 lbs in 22 weeks on weight watchers. I have 30 more lbs to lose to meet my goal. I do not count points but I do write down everything I eat. I weigh myself at home every other day and I weigh in at a WW meeting once a week. The key to my success has been that I exercise everyday. I have gradually increased intensity and duration. I do strength training 2X per week and cardio everyday. I drink lots of water. You can do it. I am 57 years old with an underactive thyroid and a artificial hip, I take low dose Zoloft which is known for weight gain as a side effect. If you want this bad enough and you are willing to sacrifice a little now for success later you can do it.
