When you go on a diet or do exercise to lose weight, where does the weight go? I’m trying to understand the biochemistry of weight loss. I’ve come to the conclusion that most of the weight we lose ends up in additional CO2 we breathe out. Am I correct or is it more evenly distributed among the other outputs (excrements, sweat etc)?
Any burned fat will end up as water and CO2, no more, no less. The same goes for carbohydrates, which you also burn during exercise whether you want it or not.
If you lose weight fast or engage in high-intensity exercise you are also likely to lose some muscle, built of protein. Protein is then took from muscles and converted to glucose (carbohydrate) and ammonia. Glucose is burned to water and CO2, ammonia goes through more reactions of which product is urea, excreted in your urine.
In some specific cases it gets more complicated, for example on ketogenic diets (do a google search) – when fat is degraded to ketones on higher scale, raising blood ketone levels, your body gets rid of it not only through burning it (of which products are water and CO2), it also excretes it through urine and exhaled air.

I’m sort of interested in the weight loss but mostly just improving strength and endurance. Can I get fit by just doing some weights and ab exercises and running one or two miles for about an hour every morning?
ANY advice is greatly appreciated!!
Here’s a few tips that work for me:
I spend a long time in front of a computer screen. Often I just stare at the monitor for up to 15 seconds while a page load or a document gets printed or whatever it is that the computer is doing.
When this is happening I lift my hands up over my head and then bring them down. I keep on doing this until the computer has finished whatever it is doing and it requires some input.,. from me.
I do similar exercises like getting up from the chair and sitting down again. I sometimes might be standing up and might type a few sentences while standing.
Combine this with drinking only water and I am doing something to lose weight. It is not much but doing it all the time it does help in losing weight.
I might swap this sometimes. I might decide that I will not do the arm exercise for a week but that week I will get off the lift two floor below and walk up the last two floors.
So long as when I go to bed at night I can say that that day I have done something extra to burn some weight, I am happy.

Mainly Kind of an outline to follow. Not So much on the eating aspect, i have the diet part under control. I am wanting to tone up and produce a little definition. I have a large frame and think it wouldn’t take long.
check out beachbody.com I have ordered a few of their DVD sets and they have been great!!! Very energizing! They also have all kinds of diet tips, at-home video work-outs with proper technique, vitamins/supplements, menu options and friendly encouragement, and lots of other great stuff.

I work a lot, mainly night shift and long hours so I can’t be driving to the gym as we don’t have a 24 hour one here. What can I do to work my upper body muscles along with bi and tris as well as abs (preferably exercises that do not require weights). I already do pushups and situps. Also if there are other exercises besides the ushups and situps I could do.

I am trying to conceive for the first time. I have heard that it is safe to exercise during pregnancy, and may even help with endurance during labor. I am looking start a regular exercise routine now, and am currently trying to conceive (may even be pregnant now). I have exercised in the past, but haven’t done so regularly for about 6 months. Is it safe to start taking aerobics/step classes and swimming at the local YMCA? Is weight lifting allowed, I wanted to start and body conditioning class? I’ve been told that heavy lifting can lead to miscarriage. They don’t have any programs designed for pregnant women. Any advice or suggestions?
