How often do I need to exercise to lose weight?

November 29th, 2009 -- Posted in exercise to lose weight | 6 Comments »

I am 20 pounds overweight from what the average person my height and weight should be. I’ve replaced the soda I’ve been drinking with green tea and water. And I eat a lot healthier. I lost a 3 pounds from eating right and now I’m ready to work out.

How often should I work out to lose weight? I am able to workout 3 days a week (Tues, Thurs, and Fri) but I can rearrange my schedule to workout on other days (weekends aren’t an option). How many days a week should I workout and for how long?

I hate the treadmill but don’t mind the elliptical. I tend to rest my arms in between the two handles because it helps me exercise longer. Should I start using the handles even though they make me more tired? Also what stretches should I do after to flatten my stomach?

Also, what should I eat after I workout because I tend to get pretty hungry and don’t feel like cooking. Should I eat a snack and then eat dinner later on or should I eat my dinner right after?

First of all, you should always give your body one full day of no exercise. 3-5 days a week would be good.
You should do 1/2 hour of cardio and then do some exercises but make sure you rotate what you do each day. Ex: cardio and arm exercises one day, abs and legs the next…etc etc.
On the elliptical you should use the handles because that will give your arms an extra workout.
After you work out if you’re hungry, you should eat something healthy. Don’t binge!
Also, I heard this a couple years back and it seems to have proven true. You should only eat when you’re hungry, and when you do eat, fill yourself up. Repeat that to yourself when you’re tempted to eat because you’re bored, as so many of us do.
Good Luck!

How would you define a fit person? What is the difference between fit and athletic?

Many time I see pics of men described as fit but they look very slim, not muscular or…
What is the difference between fit and athletic?
What do you think?

Fit is the bodies ability to perform arduous and laborious tasks for prolonged periods of time.

There are people in my gym bigger than me but they are only have as strong and have no endurance.

Candidate Fitness Assessment Workouts?

November 29th, 2009 -- Posted in fitness workouts | 1 Comment »

I am a junior in high school and my first choice of school is a service academy. I am in good physical shape but I was looking for good workouts to strengthens muscles that are involved in the exercises.

The exercises are pull ups, push ups, sit ups, basketball throw, shuttle run, and mile run.

If anyone has workout that strengthens these muscle groups and is willing to post them that would be awesome.

Well, when I workout with the Marines they make us do these things. (I dunno if it’ll help):

Sun gods(Rotating your arms in small short circles away from your body, and above your body both clock wise for 15 times and counter clockwise for 15 times. Military style)
Push ups until you hit muscle failure
Crunches
Sprinting

Thats about all I can remember.

uh.. your heart and lungs.. what is this, last night’s homework?

What exactly will I benefit from this exercise program?

November 29th, 2009 -- Posted in exercise program | 2 Comments »

Ok, i made a costom training program and it goes like this:

[Monday - Friday]

30 Minute aerobic exercise (Running, swimming, biking..) and another time of the day,
This workout :
- 100 skips on the skipping rope
- 20 Press ups
- 20 Sit ups
- 20 Tricpe dips
( And repeat the set 3 – 5 times )

Saturday and sunday will be rest days with a casual game of basketball or something.

What will this do to my body over a period of 2 months?
And how can i improve this workout?

Thank you!

If you stick to that…5 times a week with a healthy diet in 2 months, you will probably loose at least 10kg. Your body will also become a lot more stronger naturally and you will have more energy during the day. Also, exercising regularly will give you a more positive and healthy mind and exercising is good when you feel down. So it will pretty much help everything.
You workout sounds good, in my opinion I wouldn’t want to change any of it. If you want to get toned legs faster then try lunges and squats. Also, to work on your side abs, try bicycle crunches.

What is a fitness plan that I could use for the winter?

November 25th, 2009 -- Posted in fitness workouts | 1 Comment »

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a fitness workout this winter or knows a website I can go to find one. I have weight machines, all I have is an exercise bike and weights.

There is so much you can do during the winter such as skiing, snow shoeing, snow boarding, sledding, and swimming indoors. You can go to indoor track and run or go to an athletic club.

How to do exercises in Men’s Fitness Magazine?

November 25th, 2009 -- Posted in fitness exercises | 2 Comments »

I just subscribed to Men’s Fitness and recently started working out. My question is how do you perform the exercises properly? I mean, in the fitness section of the magazine, there are usually three workouts (A, B, C). Do I do exercise A first, then rest a day, then B, then rest a day, and so on?? Also, some workouts require me to do exercises in between sets. Does this mean I do exercise A, exercise B, and then A, and B again until I’m done???

Please help me. I know that I over analyze things a lot, but I wan’t to learn how to be healthy.
Thanks.
Also, in Men’s Fitness, it seems like theres two different sections for workouts. Am I supposed to do the first section one day and the next section the next day? Or just choose a goal, and do the required exercises??

How can i get the willpower to stick with exercise to lose weight?

November 22nd, 2009 -- Posted in exercise to lose weight | 1 Comment »

I’m in my late 20’s, 5 foot tall and am slightly overweight. I gave up smoking after 13 years, it took about a decade to get the willpower to finally quit (has now been nearly two years). Unfortunately i put on 21lb in weight after i gave up. I have managed to lose just 5lb. I now weight 9st 9lb (135lb), i’d like to get down to 8st 7lb (119lb), I would like some advice on how to get the willpower to stick with an exercise and healthy eating plan, i don’t want it to take me a decade to get the willpower for this (imagine how big i could be by then)?!, Has anyone been in my situation and overcome it? How did you get motivated? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (I’m not interested in slimming pills or starving myself, just a healthy lifestyle i can mantain and stick to)

Don’t look at it as ‘going on a diet’. Look at it as a lifestyle plan; it’s how you should eat the rest of your life.
Good job on quitting smoking.
Motivation? Maybe put notes around where you’ll see them; on your dresser, refrig, etc.
